The Dream Doesn’t Have a Deadline
Let’s talk about building — not just clothes, not just content, but legacy. As the founder of Material Opulence, I know this journey firsthand.
You see the posts, the pop-ups, the polished photoshoots — but what you don’t always see is the work underneath: the late-night doubts, the early morning sketches, the quiet moments of questioning if the dream is even real anymore.
But here’s what I’ve learned: the dream doesn’t die when life gets hard. It waits — for you to catch up.
And the real magic? It happens in those in-between moments. The ones where you choose to keep showing up, brick by brick.
The Power of Showing Up
People ask how Material Opulence keeps growing. Truth is, it’s not about hype — it’s about consistency.
Showing up when I’m tired.
Showing up when the design’s not clicking.
Showing up when the vision feels foggy.
And showing up looks different every day.
Sometimes it’s scheduling posts during lunch.
Sometimes it’s checking in with interns between meetings.
Sometimes it’s just writing one thing on the to-do list and promising I’ll get it done before bed.
It’s not about perfection — it’s about presence.
That’s where progress lives.
That’s how empires are built.
From Dreamer to Doer
In 2013, all I had was a vision.
No fashion degree. No investors. No blueprint.
Just a logo sketched on a dining room table and the belief that I had something to say through style.
Fast forward to today — 2025 — Material Opulence is more than a brand. It’s a movement.
From that first pop-up shop to our upcoming summer collaboration with interns from across the metro area, every step matters.
And yesterday? We received our first-ever nomination for Best Clothing Apparel Brand in the Kansas City People’s Choice Awards. A moment that validates not just the design work, but every late night, every risk, every doubt I pushed through.
But I’m still that dreamer. Still learning. Still building.
Every collection, every collaboration, every nomination — that’s another brick in this legacy.
And if there’s one thing I want you to hear loud and clear:
You don’t need to have it all figured out to start.
Your idea doesn’t need to be perfect to be powerful.
Just begin.
Begin scared. Begin small. Begin anyway.
Let Your Journey Inspire
Your journey matters — even when it’s messy. Especially when it’s messy.
I share the behind-the-scenes, the missed deadlines, the doubts — not for sympathy, but for solidarity.
So the students who follow me know the CEO life isn’t always clean-cut.
So the creatives who feel behind know growth isn’t always linear.
So you, reading this right now, know your dream is still worth it — even when it’s hard.
Someone out there needs to see you keep going — not when everything’s polished, but when it’s still in progress.
What Keeps Me Grounded
Let me be real: balancing a brand, a full-time job, acting, mentoring, and life? It’s a beautiful chaos.
But what grounds me is remembering why I started.
Material Opulence was born to tell stories through style — to show that luxury and authenticity can coexist.
To remind young Black creators that fashion can be both aspirational and accessible.
To prove that your vision deserves space in this industry.
That your “MO” — your Material Opulence, your motivation, your mission — matters.
This isn’t about blowing up overnight.
It’s about staying rooted. Staying focused.
Trusting that what I build today creates the opportunities of tomorrow.
Like being recognized in your hometown after years of pushing forward. That nomination didn’t happen overnight — it happened brick by brick.
A Word to the Dreamers
If you’re chasing something — a business, a degree, a creative vision — I see you.
And I want to tell you this:
✅ You’re not behind.
✅ You’re not too late.
✅ You’re not waiting for permission.
Keep building, even when it’s slow.
Keep dreaming, even when it’s hard.
Keep moving, even when the path feels unclear.
Because every step forward is laying the foundation for something powerful — something that reflects your passion, your purpose, and your power.
