When the pace quickens, purpose has to get louder
The last fourteen days felt like a montage — quick cuts of runway walks, rehearsal halls, denim swatches, camera slates, calendar invites, and late-night lists. In the noise, one truth kept me centered: Material Opulence is not just something I do — it’s who I am becoming. And I’m inviting you to grow with me.
The First Model Call We’ll Never Forget
We stepped into our first-ever model call for Material Opulence — and Kansas City showed up. More than 30 models — men, women, and kids — commanded the floor with confidence, grit, grace, and range. It was electric.
We watched walks sharpen in real time, saw personalities bloom, and felt the brand reflected back at us: quiet confidence with undeniable presence. One moment that stood out: watching a young model correct their posture mid-walk and instantly transform — proof that presence is a skill, not a gift. Choosing only five for LocToberFest wasn’t easy, but I’m proud of our final cast and excited to put them in looks that carry our story: enduring, intentional, elevated.
If you were there — thank you. Whether you made the roster this time or not, the door is not closed. We’re building a movement, and that takes a community.
LocToberFest: Culture, Crown, Community
LocToberFest is more than an event — it’s a vibrant celebration of all things locs: the artistry, the culture, the family, and the community that brings us together. We honor our roots while educating and inspiring others to cherish the crown they wear.
- Date: Sunday, October 26, 2025
- Time: 12 PM — 3 PM
- Venue: Grandview Amphitheater — 13501 Byars Rd, Grandview, MO 64030
- Admission: FREE
Men, women, and children are invited to enjoy music, vendors, food, and fellowship. We’re hitting the runway with pieces that honor heritage and insist on excellence — Staples you know, plus a preview of what’s next for Fall/Winter.
Whether you’re an attendee, vendor, or performer, this is for us. Bring your people. Bring your pride. Let’s celebrate together.
Stage Craft → Studio Craft
Between fittings and fabric samples, I’ve been living double. Last week I stepped into the 19th century for a museum exhibit shoot — uniformed, musket in hand, learning formation on the fly. Days later, I became Zyair in Sunder at Just Off Broadway Theater (October 3–5).
The audience had feelings — boos, gasps, and compliments like, “You’d make a great villain in a Tyler Perry film,” and “I hated you — you played that too well.”
I laughed. I listened. I learned.

Acting and fashion sharpen each other. The same discipline it takes to master a scene is what I bring to tailoring — patience, structure, and presence. On stage, I practice truth; in the studio, I sew it into form. They’re both storytelling. They’re both legacy work.
Next up: Faith in the Fire — a gospel drama at the GEM Theater, where I play Markell, a character wrestling with faith, family, and the weight of unfulfilled potential.
- Saturday, October 25, 2025
- Showtimes: 3 PM (I’m in this performance) and 7 PM (starring my brother in artistry, Melvin Gibson)
- Address: 1615 E 18th St, Kansas City, MO 64108
I’m honored to stand on that stage while building a house of style that will outlast the spotlight.

Outerwear in Motion: Prototypes, Patience, Precision
Fall/Winter prototypes are in development, and the direction is exactly what we promised: enduring silhouettes with modern refinement. You’ll feel it in the hand, see it in the line, and recognize it in the way strangers look twice without knowing why.
Outerwear: Topcoats, peacoats, and jackets with clean lines that work in boardrooms and breweries — intentional, never loud. We’re sourcing Italian wool blends and testing construction methods that prioritize both drape and durability. Expect fair-value pricing in a accessible price range: premium materials, refined construction, no markup for hype.
Denim: Taking a little more time (as it should). We’re testing weights, washes, hardware, and stitch density to ensure the first impression matches the fifth year. We’re not chasing complexity — we’re chasing construction that lasts.
Our core pieces remain under $250. If you want fleeting, you have options. If you want foundational, you’re in the right place.
Collaboration Is the Culture
Last night I jumped in to help fellow entrepreneur Jeff Harris of The Black Love Co. on a Halloween-themed commercial in the Crossroads Arts District. Quick changes, location pivots, creative problem-solving in the cold — my kind of night.
That’s what I love about Kansas City: we lift as we climb.
And yes, I’m still piecing together my own Halloween fit — creative, recognizable, and executed with MO’s standard. Costumes may be play, but construction is a lifestyle.

Mentorship as Multiplication
We also received an email I’m deeply grateful for: our Pro X application for 2026 has been accepted. Another summer to pour into ambitious students and be poured into by their curiosity and courage.
And this week, I began the North Kansas City Schools Mentorship Program, joining two other entrepreneurs to meet monthly with students hungry for real-world game: how to pivot, how to connect product to story, how to keep going when you hear “no.”
That’s Material Opulence in a sentence:
Our Dream. Our Struggle. Our Rise.
Legacy isn’t just garments that last. It’s values that multiply.

Why Material Opulence (Not Just Another Label)
We honor the great fashion houses, but we’re carving our own lane. While traditional luxury is exclusive by price, Material Opulence is accessible by design. Where others build for one season, we create enduring staples. We’re not about status signaling — we’re about quiet confidence. Traditional luxury charges $400+ for basics; we deliver premium core pieces under $250. Instead of limited access, we’re community-rooted yet globally minded. Rather than hype-driven pricing, we offer value-driven construction. Material Opulence isn’t just another label — it’s a different philosophy entirely.
We don’t borrow exclusivity as a shortcut. We earn loyalty through quality.

Carrying the Crown Forward
Two weeks can feel like a lifetime when you’re building something real. From museum sets to rehearsal halls, from model calls to runway plans, from denim labs to gospel stages — I’m reminded that purpose has a pulse.
In moments of exhaustion, when the schedules collide and the goals feel far away, I remind myself why I started: to prove that Kansas City creativity can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with global excellence.
To everyone who’s shopped, shared, voted, mentored, modeled, performed, or simply believed: thank you. You’re not just buying garments. You’re building a standard with us.
We don’t just wear crowns. We carry them.
